Contemporary digital art explained

In the olden days artists used brushes and canvas. They were thought wacky and odd if they gave up mixing egg tempura and started using oil paint. If they moved to acrylic, why they were barking mad! Times change and now cutting edge contemporay artists are using computers and pdas more than sketchbooks and paints.

Contemporary digital art has many definitions. At its widest it includes any piece of art that has been created wholly or partially on a computer. As with any art forms digital art can be inspiring or dull. The digital part is only a tool for the ideas and marks of the artist.

Digital art is a new discipline within fine art. It is still at an experimental stage. Technology is used in every part of society - it is natural that contemporary art reflects that.
